purchasing officer

purchasing officer
An employee of a manufacturer, who is responsible for purchasing the raw materials used in the manufacturing process. If these include raw materials that fluctuate in price, the purchasing officer has to show that the average purchase price for the year is not excessive. The purchasing officer is also responsible for maintaining adequate stocks to tide the company over any break in the continuity of supply, without tying up excessive amounts of capital.
